The Pit Terms of Use
Additional terms governing Herpegram's anonymous Subject discovery, relationship and dating features.
1. Scope and status
These The Pit Terms of Use apply whenever you create, reopen or use a Pit account, Subject session, city Pit, Profile Review, Face Reveal or Pit Transmission feature. They supplement the general Herpegram Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Sewer Rules and any applicable Infection+ Terms. If these terms conflict with a more general Herpegram term about a Pit-specific feature, these Pit-specific terms apply to that feature to the extent of the conflict.
The Pit is an Infection+ feature. During beta or staged rollout, Herpegram may permit access before paid/free entitlement enforcement is activated. That temporary access does not change the feature’s Infection+ classification or guarantee continued free access.
Effective date: 11 September 2026. Version: pit-terms-v1-2026-09-11. These beta terms should be reviewed by a qualified UK solicitor before public commercial launch.
2. Pit accounts and Subject sessions
Your Pit account is linked privately to your Herpegram account for operation, safety, moderation and abuse prevention. Other Subjects must not receive your private Variant-to-Pit account mapping merely because they interact with your Subject.
Your public Subject number is session-scoped. Each time a closed Pit account is reopened, Herpegram assigns a new Subject number. Closing a Pit session retires the current public Subject number. The retired number must not be treated as a permanent public identifier or as a route to contact the account after that session closes.
Herpegram may retain the private account linkage and session history where reasonably necessary for security, moderation, legal compliance, fraud prevention, disputes or the enforcement of safety controls. Changing Subject numbers does not remove restrictions, blocks or safety measures attached internally to the same Pit or Herpegram account.
3. Anonymous identity and privacy boundary
The Pit is designed to separate a Subject identity from the public Variant identity. Subject cards must not deliberately expose the linked Variant number, Herpegram username, public avatar, public Variant profile photograph, Contaminations or a public Variant profile link.
You must not attempt to identify, expose or distribute another Subject’s hidden Variant identity through technical exploitation, social engineering, coordinated investigation or other attempts to defeat The Pit’s privacy controls.
4. Sewer Map and discovery areas
The Pit is integrated into supported city Drainages on the Sewer Map. Your Variant REGION is the source of truth for your home Sewer and home Drainage. You may deliberately select additional Sewers or Drainages for Pit discovery where the feature permits it.
A selected Drainage is a discovery preference, not a claim that a Subject is physically present there. The Pit does not require precise GPS coordinates or distance-based discovery. You must not treat a city label as proof of a person’s current real-world location.
5. Subject Profile, Face A and Face B
A Subject profile may contain age information derived from the account’s private age record, gender and other profile facts sourced from the Variant profile, interests, relationship intentions, preferred languages and answers chosen for The Pit.
Face A // The Subject contains the profile answers selected for display. Initial Pit onboarding requires five completed Face A items. Face B // The Negotiation is a separate set of negotiation questions and positions that can be completed or changed later where available.
Profile answers must comply with the general Herpegram Terms, applicable Sewer Rules and law. Subject anonymity does not permit threats, harassment, fraud, doxxing, coercion or other prohibited conduct.
6. Profile Review requests
Where Profile Review is available, a Subject may send another Subject a request together with an opening message. The receiving Subject may review the requesting Subject’s Pit profile and accept, reject or hide the request. A request is not a match or an entitlement to a response until it is accepted.
Herpegram may impose limits and expiry periods on pending Profile Review requests, including a maximum number of active outgoing requests and automatic expiry of unanswered requests, to reduce spam and unwanted contact. Current product rules may, for example, use a 48-hour request window and a limit of five active outgoing requests.
7. Face Reveal
Where the current Pit flow requires Face Reveal after a Profile Review is accepted, both Subjects must complete the reciprocal Face Reveal before ordinary Pit text conversation unlocks. A Face Reveal is intended to use a live camera capture rather than an existing gallery or file upload.
The product may enforce separate server-side response and capture deadlines. The current design uses up to three hours from acceptance to respond to the Face Reveal requirement and, once live capture begins, up to ten seconds to take the photograph. The capture event may be recorded before encryption and upload so ordinary network delay does not unfairly count against the capture timer.
Face Reveals are designed as reciprocal, encrypted, view-once media. A Subject should not be able to open the other person’s reveal before sending their own. Failure to complete a mandatory reveal within the applicable deadline may end the connection, expire any submitted reveal and create a Pit-specific pair block or mutual hiding rule. These safety consequences may remain attached to the underlying accounts even after either person later receives a new Subject number.
8. Pit Transmissions and external contact
Private Pit Transmissions may be subject to additional security, encryption, device and conversation controls. End-to-end encryption is intended to protect message contents in transit and storage, but it does not prevent a recipient from seeing, preserving or reporting material delivered to their own device.
Where Herpegram restricts the exchange of external contact information, the current product design may require both a minimum elapsed time after Face Reveal completion and a minimum amount of reciprocal conversation before the restriction unlocks. The planned rule requires at least 24 hours and at least ten text messages sent by each Subject. Detection of contact information may occur on the client where message contents are end-to-end encrypted.
9. Blocking, hiding, reporting and safety
You may be able to reject and hide a Subject, block a Subject or report conduct through The Pit. A Subject-number change must not be used to evade a block, Face Reveal safety consequence, moderation action, anti-abuse restriction or other account-level protection.
Reports are requests for review and are not proof of wrongdoing. Herpegram may preserve the information reasonably necessary to investigate a report, protect users, enforce the service rules, prevent abuse or comply with law.
10. Closing and reopening The Pit
Closing your Pit account removes the current Subject from discovery and may close open Pit conversations and cancel pending requests. The current Subject number is retired. Your saved Pit profile answers and preferences may be retained so that you can review or reuse them if you later reopen The Pit.
Reopening The Pit starts a new Subject session with a new public Subject number and requires acceptance of the Pit Terms version presented at that time. Reopening does not remove internal safety history, account-level blocks or lawful moderation records.
11. Age eligibility and Infection+
The Pit is available only to Herpegram accounts that satisfy Herpegram’s adult eligibility requirements. Age eligibility belongs to the general account onboarding and verification architecture; The Pit may rely on the resulting account eligibility state rather than asking you to repeat the same registration process.
The Pit depends on Infection+. When subscription enforcement is activated, loss or expiry of the required entitlement may suspend Pit discovery or close access without deleting the durable private Pit account data that Herpegram is entitled or required to retain. Re-entitlement may allow a new Subject session to be opened subject to the then-current onboarding and terms.
12. Changes, beta features and availability
The Pit is being developed in stages. Some functions described here may be unavailable, experimental or changed before commercial launch. Herpegram may adjust feature mechanics, limits, safety controls or availability where reasonably necessary for product development, abuse prevention, security, legal compliance or service operation.
If a future change materially affects paid access, contractual rights or the processing of personal data, Herpegram will provide any notice, choice, cancellation route or other measure required by applicable law.
